The Process

Natural dyeing is a process of using herbs such as Turmeric, Pomegranate, and others as natural dyes to provide colors to your clothes. The chemicals used in synthetic dyeing seep into run-off water after heavy rains and waterways. Pesticide residue has been increasingly discovered in foods, farm animals, etc.  We even feel the harmful effects of non-organic cotton and fabrics in our daily lives. Irritated skin, rashes, and even headaches, and dizziness can be caused by chemical residue trapped in the threads of the fabric. livbio provides you with the best and purest form of organic cotton dyed with herbal colors molded into beautiful, soothing, and comfortable apparel.

Step-1: Desizing

Just like Any other dyeing Process, natural Dyeing also starts with Desizing. The washing of processed greige cloth starts with removing sizing, gums, and oils used in the course of weaving by washing with natural mineral-rich water and sea salts.

Step-2: Bleaching

Fabrics are exposed to direct sunlight and use of a natural grass base and animal manure starts the bleaching process which makes natural dyeing process healthier.

Step-3: Mordanting

To make the colors bright and fast, natural mordants such as myrobalan, rhubarb leaves, oils, minerals, alum, iron vat etc are used. We do not use heavy metal mordants like copper, chrome, zinc, tin etc

Step-4: Dyeing

We use only medicinally rich herbs, plant material, minerals & oils like, turmeric, myrobalan, castor oil, sea salt etc for dyeing fabric or yarn. We have aspired to achieve and retain the medicinal qualities of the herbs by immersing the plant material directly in the dye bath for the same reason.

Step-5: Drying

The dyed fabric is left in shade for a specific period of time for the natural drying process.

Step-6: Finishing

In herb dyeing, finishing is done by sprinkling pure water on the cloth and then stretching under pressure, using hand rolls, aloe vera, castor oil etc.
